Hello Fellow Anglers,With the Northeast COD,POLLOCK,HADDOCK(will soon have special Flourocarbon Red Circle hook HADDOCK rigs-posted) season just starting and with Jigging the usual method to the Offshore Bank fishing off of MASS,N.H.,& Maine,I will keep posting more Jigging teaser rigs as much as possible as I,m well aware this fishery continues right through the Summer months.I will also start hunting down some larger jig's were in many conditions for you guys North of me offten need to go big or go home.
I,m using 7/0 Dark Blue Siwash hooks on these jigging rigs. This is my least expensive rig but there is certainly nothing cheap about them.80lb test,Mckala 5"Squid,7/0 siwash hook,100lb= Barrel(new-Style diamond-Eye swivles we I have them)../There are no knots to slip-All connections are crimpped then covered with the worlds(?)brightest GLOW tube. Each Jig rig also has a oval GLOW bead ahead of the teaser.I have been using this method of adding a teaser ahead of a lure for about 20years now and still want someone to show me a better way,but this is yet to be done.
Two things I have refined and changed a bit are the use of a single hook and putting the teaser closer to the leader. Both of these make a rig that rarly fouls even foul less,if you can get it to foul at all?
Pro's & con's on Mckala's 5"Squid.The only con is these are a soft rubber squid, yes fish love'em and hold onto them but they will also destroy them.As for Cod unlike Bluefish you can possibly fish an entire "LOCK & LOAD" trip with a cooler of Cod and still have the same SQUID on-it probally wont look very happy-but you will:)
Solution,I sell these squid at a very reasonable price,I doubt you will ever find them anywhere cheaper than I,m selling them for right now.
The 7/0 Siwash is perfect with it's extra wide gap for taking off what's left of your Squid, then simply slide a new one on.As much as I like the lifelike two-color hollow style squid, you can't swap squid out & on because of the spacer beads and overal constuction..
Besides replacing a squid that is shot,it's also nice to be able to switch colors without having to tie a know..Everyone with a green teaser is killing it and your rigger with a red squid, just slide it off and sline on a mean green Cod killing machine!:)
Any questions or customizations please feel free to contact me and I will do everything in my power to help out,Thanks,Capt.Larry
